Buying A Boat
I will be your point of contact throughout the entire process, from your initial enquiry to handing over the keys on the day you take your new boat away. I will guide you through the whole process, from viewing, negotiating a price, arranging an independent survey if required, helping to arrange servicing and/or repairs, insurance, moorings and even training if you’d like it.
Stage 1 – Viewing, I will arrange an appointment at a mutually agreed time between the vendor and the buyer. I will let you know in advance if the boat is either in or out of the water. We can run the engine/s* (from cold obviously!) and try most of the onboard electrics & electrical systems.
* please note that during the winter months running the engine before river trial may not be possible due to winterisation.
Stage 2 – If you are happy with the initial viewing and would like to take things further, you can make an offer, which I will put to the seller. This offer can be subject to conditions and/or a survey. If the offer is accepted a deposit of 10% is paid to myself (the Broker) which is kept in a Client account until the negotiations are complete and the sale is agreed.
Stage 3 – River trial, I will arrange a mutually convenient time between the buyer, seller and myself for a ‘trial run’, normally about 30 minutes. The buyer has a chance to speak to the seller and try the boat themselves, I am a great believer in the buyer and seller meeting before the sale takes place. Nobody knows a boat as well as the owner and they can pass on lots of useful information that is hugely helpful.
Stage 4 – After river trial, if both parties are happy then we can progress to either a survey or completing the sale. Full payment is made, again into my Client account, I will guide you through the whole process and check both the ‘title’ (ownership details) and complete all the transfer documents to the new owner. Only after the whole process is complete, paperwork has been signed by both parties and everybody is completely happy, then the keys & paper work are handed to the new owner and the funds for the boat are released to the vendor.
Selling A Boat
If you are looking to sell your boat please get in touch to arrange a valuation. I always give an honest, market value valuation, ie: close to what you can expect to achieve from a sale. If you are ‘shopping’ around Brokers, you will find there can often be quite a difference in the price given – please be aware that this is often simply to get your boat ‘signed up’ and after a short time you will be asked to significantly reduce the price which is not good for the seller or prospective buyers who wonder why there has suddenly been such a drop in price.
If you are happy with the price given, we can discuss listing & marketing your boat. I will always aim to do viewings myself but unlike many Brokers I do encourage my buyers & sellers to meet as nobody will know your boat quite as well as you.
I will handle all enquiries, paperwork, monies received from the buyer and the handover to the new owner.
I do not sell ‘stock’ boats, so I will always give the brokerage boats on my listings my very best attention. I pride myself on giving honest advice, practical solutions, working outside of normal hours and putting the customers first – and my commission is lot less than the larger Brokers too! If this sounds like the kind of service you would like, please get in touch for a chat.
